fredflare.com | Fuck You and Your Blog journal

Go analog instead of blogging with this
old-fashioned journal! Featuring quotes
like “Comments section disabled” and
“Totally private,” this book gives you a
great way to express yourself without
broadcasting it on the world wide web!
Chronicle Books. Approximately 5”x7”

Congrats to my friend Rich for getting included in the new Whitney Biennial!

Winger - Seventeen

I really need to do a “69 Best Hard-ish Pop-Rock Songs Of The Hard Rock Era” list, although I fear that when I do my purpose in life will be fulfilled, and I will vaporize into dust.

(This would be top five for sure, btw.)

An "Inside Baseball" Music Blog Nerd Post

An observation: if you are a music site that ostensibly posts only “legal, cleared” tracks, then you probably shouldn’t be be posting links to tracks on sites that don’t follow the “everything is legal, cleared” standard.

I’m not sure what sort of bizarre justification you have going on in your head, but it’s like vowing that you’d never riot and loot, but then you’re perfectly happy to stand next to an already-broken shop window and yell “Hey everybody, look! Free TVs!”

(Please to note: I’m not saying “legal” blogs are any better/worse than “anything goes” blogs, I’m just making an observation about this “both sides of the mouth” thing, as I’ve been seeing it so much of late.)

I JUST got the joke with the band Small Black’s name, now, like 2 months after first hearing of them.

I think I would’ve gotten it quicker if they’d chosen “Little Black” instead, but then again, maybe not. I once worked on a project called “Tech Knowledge” for about 6 months before I all-of-a-sudden “got” that one.

I want to applaud the makers of my favorite album of 2009, Vancouver’s Apollo Ghosts, for selling through nearly 500 copies of their LP Hastings Sunrise (stream), which I think quite the accomplishment for a band with:

NO PR

NO publicity

NO advertising

NO (real*) label

ALMOST NO coverage from the media or blogosphere
and who have played barely a handful of shows outside of their hometown of Vancouver.

For a few seconds there, I wondered “what is David Karp doing on Pitchfork???”

We have exactly 7 Catbird Records T-shirts remaining (2 S, 2 M, 2 L, 1 Ladies L). This includes one recently discovered v.3 AA Green one (L), and one AA Grey (Ladies L). Get ‘em while you still can.
